MLO 2 Reflective Narrative
As part of this MLO, students are able to acknowledge a variety of fundamental concepts connected with the Hispanic culture and apply Linguistics methods to gain more knowledge in this area. Students also complete different research papers along with collecting research data on a chosen topic. I have fulfilled MLO 2 through the completion of SPAN 313: Into to Spanish Linguistics. This course helped me gain linguistic knowledge of different Hispanic accents. For my research paper, I was able to discover the different linguistic features of different Spanish speakers. I got the opportunity to complete a research paper on a specific Spanish accent called “El acento Tapatio”. I select this accent because I used to live in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico and found this accent interesting so I decided to do a research of how was this created. This research paper helped me with the completion of MLO 2. In this project I focus on the Guadalajara dialect of the central region of the city of Guadalajara. The Spanish of this area is influenced by the indigenous language, Nahuatl and the Spanish language, especially Castilian due to the arrival of settlers who spoke this dialect of the language. Other languages that are also spoken in this state of Jalisco are Huichol, Nahuatl, Tarascan and Mixtec. Something that distinguishes the variety of the jaliscienses is its intonation. MLO 2 has opened doors to my life, I was able to discover that there is a variety of dialects, accents, and types of different languages which are important because in real life we will be interacting with a diverse community or social groups which can also be referred to as sociolinguistic. I’ll be looking forward to practice some of these accents in order to understand and interactive with members of that community.
