Service Learning at LATINAN and Monterey County Food Bank
For my service learning project, I worked in person on two different non-profit organizations LATINAN and Food Bank for Monterey County. These two sites are completely different. LATINAN is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that aims to support, educate and advocate for clients who wish to gain an immigration benefit in the United States. LATINAN provides immigration legal services at low cost for low income communities. My deliverables at LATINAN were customer service communication, organizing documentation and office work. At the end of my service in LATINAN I presented a PowerPoint in class to show more about my experience and duties, each week I provided reflections via Canvas. After completing my community hours in LATINAN I realized how this site helped me acknowledge the different obstacles that our Latino community suffers from this immigration system.
Food Bank for Monterey County is also a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that aims to support, educate and is working to end hunger and transform the health of the community through good nutrition. This is also a provider of emergency supplemental food in the community. The Food Bank serves as the central distribution ‘hub’ providing high-quality food, fresh produce, and educational & nutritional resources to over 160 local nonprofit network members. I also completed reflections each week were I shared the activities offered. The staff is really nice and the overall environment is safe, I am thankful with my supervisor Mario which guided me and the volunteers throughout my community service.
