Reflection (refer to reflection questions referenced above on page 1) regarding the course (to the best of your ability based on your current progress in the major):
In SPAN 301S we were required to complete 30 hours of service learning in any organization linked to CSUMB. The goal of this course is to get students involved in the community and explore the real world. Another goal that I set for myself was to gain knowledge in communication and explore the diversity in the Chicanx community. In this class, we talked about diversity in our community and how this impacts each group. In addition, we learned about the different meanings of self-representation. In this course, we interacted with our classmates and discussed our different perspectives on our community. At the end of the semester we had the opportunity to create a narrative essay along with a presentation about our site of service and how this connects with our course. Completing my community service at the end of the course made my realize how diversity exists among our community. By completing this course I am sure that next semester I would like to volunteer at an non profit organization once again. Help my community and colleagues will be a priority in order to make a change in the system.
